☤ Hermes Agent v0.17.0 — The Reach Release
~1,475 commits · ~800 PRs · 1,693 files · 300+ issues closed · 245 community contributors — two weeks.
v0.16.0 put Hermes on your desktop. v0.17.0 is about how far that reach extends — new places to talk to it, deeper into the tools you already use, and out to the people running Hermes for a team. Two new channels, a much stronger desktop app, background subagents, image editing, and Cursor's Composer model through your Grok subscription.
◆ A substantially more capable desktop app. v0.16.0 shipped it; v0.17.0 made it a serious daily driver — rebindable keyboard shortcuts, native OS notifications, live subagent watch-windows that stream a delegated agent into its own pane, a composer model selector with per-model presets, automatic RTL/bidi text, a resizable VS Code-themed terminal pane, per-thread drafts, and install-any-VS-Code-Marketplace-theme.
◆ Hermes reaches iMessage — no Mac relay. A new iMessage platform plugin on Photon Spectrum's managed line pool. `hermes photon login`, device-code auth, done — send and receive iMessage with no Mac in a closet running a bridge. Positioned as the BlueBubbles successor: free to start, nothing to self-host. If your people live in the blue bubbles, Hermes lives there now too.
◆ Raft (Previously Slock) A new bundled Raft platform adapter connects Hermes to raft.build as an external agent over a wake-channel bridge. Privacy by contract: wake payloads carry only metadata (event IDs, timestamps), never message bodies. Another surface where Hermes shows up and does work.
◆ Background / async subagents. `delegate_task(background=true)` dispatches a subagent that runs in the background and returns immediately; the full result re-enters the conversation when it finishes. Kick off a long research dive, carry on with something else instead of sitting blocked.
◆ Edit images, not just generate them. `image_generate` now does image-to-image editing — pass an image and a prompt and it routes to the backend's edit endpoint, across every supported provider. "Make this logo blue," "remove the background," all from the tool you already use.
◆ Automation Blueprints — schedule without learning cron. Pick an automation by name and Hermes asks you for what it needs — no cron syntax, no `slot=value`. One definition renders as a dashboard form, a slash command, a conversation, a docs entry. "Daily briefing at 8am" becomes a thing you set up by answering questions.
◆ Cursor's Composer model, through your xAI Grok subscription. `grok-composer-2.5-fast` is now in the xAI OAuth picker with its full 200k context. Composer is the fast coding model behind Cursor — point Hermes at it over OAuth with your existing Grok subscription, no separate API key. Your Grok plan, Hermes's agent loop, Composer's coding speed.
◆ Full profile builder in the dashboard. Build a complete profile from the browser — pick the model, choose skills, attach MCP servers — no hand-editing `config.yaml`. Multi-profile management is unified into one machine-wide view with a global switcher.
◆ Secure dashboard login. Auth hardened across the board: every token-required endpoint correctly 401s behind the OAuth gate, websocket auth uses the served dashboard token, and silent `public_url` override rejections now warn. Exposing your dashboard to the network is safer by default.
And a ton more, see full release notes: https://github.com/NousResearch/hermes-agent/releases/tag/v2026.6.19
